Are you fed up with those pesky pests around your house and have tried most of the store-bought insect repellents? You can try out some of these natural homemade pest repellents to get rid of these troublesome insects!

1/Get rid of ants

ants hate the smell of cinnamon, baking soda, mint, and garlic. Use cinnamon sticks or sprinkle baking soda to repel ants

1. Ant Spray: This technique proves effective in eradicating ants, as the soapy solution eradicates the traces of ant pheromones. Pheromones, akin to hormones but operating externally, are chemical compounds emitted by mammals or insects. They are typically deployed to allure other mammals or insects, and ants release them into their surroundings. These pheromones serve various purposes, such as attracting a mate, alerting fellow ants to danger, or guiding them to specific locations.

Method 1: Combine 20 ml of hand wash or liquid soap, 1/4 cup of vinegar, and 1½ cups of water. Thoroughly mix the solution and transfer it into a spray bottle. Apply the mixture directly onto the ants. Additionally, you can spray it around the entrances or crevices through which the ants are entering.
Method 2: To deter ants, you have several options:

  1. Scatter baking soda, and cinnamon, or position garlic cloves around the area with ants.
  2. Create a mixture of borax powder and sugar. Store it in a jar with holes or sprinkle it in areas like your yard, close to anthills, and along ant trails.

2/Repel cockroach

Bay leaves, mint, and tea tree oil are natural remedies that can be used to repel or deter cockroaches.

 2. Cockroach spray: Many households struggle with the presence of cockroaches. Here’s a method to effectively eliminate them: Utilize bay leaves, peppermint, or tea tree oil as natural repellents against cockroaches.

Method 1:  Combine 6 to 8 drops of tea tree essential oil and 8 to 10 drops of peppermint oil with 1 cup of water. Thoroughly mix the solution and transfer it into a spray bottle. Apply this mixture to areas affected by cockroaches, using it once or twice a week until the cockroach infestation subsides. The potent aroma of essential oils acts as a deterrent to cockroaches. Additionally, strategically place bay leaves or cloves in cabinets and other areas to further repel cockroaches.
Method 2: Combine one part of sugar with three parts of boric acid. Sprinkle this mixture directly in areas where you’ve observed roaches, or place it on a surface like a paper plate. Allow it to sit overnight, then vacuum it up the following morning. Repeat this process for several days. This method effectively targets and eliminates roaches over time.

Thoroughly blend the mixture and transfer it into a spray bottle. Apply this solution to the affected areas. Repeat this process once to twice a week for several weeks until the spiders are no longer present. This method is effective in repelling and ultimately eliminating spiders.

Mosquitoes hate the smell of mint, cloves, citronella, and eucalyptus which can be used to prevent mosquitoes around you

5. Mosquito repellent: Have you ever had a night’s sleep disrupted by mosquitoes in your room? Or had a peaceful evening in your garden spoiled by countless mosquito bites? We’ve all been there, but there are natural ways to get rid of them. This method is effective because mosquitoes strongly dislike the scent of essential oils, particularly tea tree, lemon, and peppermint.

Method: In half a cup of water, combine 1 teaspoon of coconut oil with 18 to 20 drops of your preferred essential oil, such as citronella, tea tree, or peppermint. Thoroughly mix the ingredients and transfer them into a spray bottle or a roll-on container. Apply this mixture to your clothes to repel mosquitoes. Additionally, you can use a diffuser with citronella or lemongrass essential oil to keep mosquitoes at bay in your living space. This method effectively deters mosquitoes, allowing you to enjoy your surroundings without disturbance.

Caution: Absolutely, it’s crucial to dilute essential oils before use. Applying them directly on the skin can lead to irritation or other adverse reactions. Dilution in water or a carrier oil helps ensure safe and effective use. Thank you for emphasizing this important precaution!

How to treat mosquito bites:

You can apply a few drops of diluted apple cider vinegar or regular vinegar to the area of the mosquito bite and allow it to air dry. If you don’t have either type of vinegar on hand, you can also use a few drops of an antiseptic liquid like Dettol or Savlon. Gently rub it onto the mosquito bite area. This will help alleviate discomfort and promote healing.
