4. Pineapple May help reduce the risk of cancer

Benefits Of Pineapple: 9 Ways to Use Pineapple As a Medicine

Cancer is a chronic disease characterized by uncontrolled cell growth.

Its progression is usually related to oxidative stress and chronic inflammation.

Several studies have shown that pineapple and its compounds may reduce the risk of cancer. Indeed, they can minimize oxidative stress and reduce inflammation.

One of these compounds is a group of digestive enzymes called bromelain. Test tube studies have shown that bromelain may also help fight cancer.

For example, two test-tube studies showed that bromelain inhibits the growth of breast cancer cells and stimulates cell death.

Other test-tube studies show that bromelain suppresses cancer of the skin, bile ducts, gastric system, and colon, among others.

Studies in test tubes and animals have shown that bromelain can stimulate the immune system to produce molecules that make white blood cells more effective at suppressing the growth of cancer cells and killing cancer cells.

However, pineapple contains much less bromelain than supplements. More human research is needed before conclusions can be drawn.

SUMMARY: PINEAPPLE CONTAINS COMPOUNDS THAT REDUCE OXIDATIVE STRESS AND INFLAMMATION, BOTH OF WHICH ARE LINKED TO CANCER. ONE OF THESE COMPOUNDS IS THE ENZYME BROMELAIN, WHICH CAN STIMULATE CELL DEATH IN SOME CANCER CELLS AND PROMOTE THE FUNCTIONING OF WHITE BLOOD CELLS.

5. Pineapple helps to increase immunity and suppress inflammation

Pineapples have been part of traditional medicine for centuries.

They contain a wide variety of vitamins, minerals, and enzymes such as bromelain that can collectively boost immunity and suppress inflammation.
A nine-week study was conducted daily with 98 healthy children, either without pineapple, with a few pineapples (140 g), or with lots of pineapples (280 g), to determine whether they boosted their immunity.

Children who ate pineapples had a significantly lower risk of viral and bacterial infections. In addition, the children who ate the most pineapple had nearly four times as many white blood cells (granulocytes) capable of fighting the disease as the other two groups.

Another study found that children with sinus infections recovered much more quickly with bromelain supplementation compared to standard treatment or a combination of the two.

In addition, studies have shown that bromelain can reduce markers of inflammation.

These anti-inflammatory properties are believed to help the immune system.

6. May relieve the symptoms of arthritis.

Arthritis affects more than 54 million adults in the United States alone.

There are many types of arthritis, but most involve inflammation of the joints.

Because pineapples contain bromelain, which has anti-inflammatory properties, it is widely believed that they can relieve the pain of people with inflammatory arthritis.

In fact, research conducted as early as the 1960s showed that bromelain was used to relieve the symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis, a type of arthritis involving inflammation of the joints.

Several recent studies have examined the effectiveness of bromelain in the treatment of arthritis.

A study in patients with osteoarthritis found that taking a digestive enzyme supplement containing bromelain helped relieve pain as effectively as common arthritis medications such as diclofenac.

In addition, a review has analyzed the ability of bromelain to treat osteoarthritis. It concluded that bromelain has the potential to relieve arthritis symptoms, particularly in the short term.

However, it is not clear whether bromelain can be a long-term treatment for the symptoms of arthritis. Longer studies are needed before recommending bromelain for the relief of arthritis symptoms.

SUMMARY/ THE ANTI-INFLAMMATORY PROPERTIES OF PINEAPPLE MAY PROVIDE SHORT-TERM SYMPTOM RELIEF FOR PEOPLE WITH COMMON ARTHRITIS.
