17. Clean your dirty hands.

Do you have dirty hands after gardening? Just rub baking soda on your wet hands and rinse them with water.

18. Deodorize the compost pile or bin

Add a tablespoon of baking soda to a gallon of water and sprinkle it over your compost bin. This will eliminate any bad odors coming from the bin. Don’t overdo it, as this will slow down the composting process considerably.

19. Getting rid of gnats

Whether they’re in the leaf piles or in the compost bin, midges can be a huge nuisance. Mix four tablespoons of baking soda with water and biodegradable soap. Pour this mixture or spray on the gnat infestation to kill the ones hiding there.

20. Eliminate anthills

When it comes to ants, use a deadly mixture of sugar and baking soda as bait to kill them. Mix the two ingredients in a 1:1 ratio and sprinkle the mixture on the anthill. The ants will eat this mixture and carry it back to the nest, where the other ants will also consume it.

21. Dispelling pests

Lightly sprinkle baking soda on the ground to distress insects that live underneath, such as silverfish and roaches. Baking soda is a great way to get rid of these burrowing insects.

Precautions to take when using baking soda in the garden

Avoid spraying directly on flower stems and buds whenever possible.
When trying a homemade mixture, always test it on a small portion first.
Also, follow the correct dosages as too strong a combination can burn the leaves of the plants.
