Indeed, growing marigolds is incredibly budget-friendly! Not only are marigold seeds relatively inexpensive to purchase, but you can also easily save seeds from year to year.
French marigolds, in particular, are a breeze to harvest seeds from due to their multiple bloom cycles throughout the growing season. A single flower can yield nearly a hundred seeds!
To save French marigold seeds, allow a couple of blooms to fully dry out on the plant until the seed head turns completely brown and shrivels up. Once this happens, snip off the seed head. Then, separate the individual seeds and spread them out to dry on a paper towel or plate. Once the seeds are thoroughly dry, you can store them for the following season, ensuring a continuous cycle of vibrant blooms year after year.

French Marigolds come in two main types: open-pollinated and hybrids.
Open-pollinated seeds will produce plants that closely resemble the parent plant, ensuring consistency in appearance and traits. On the other hand, hybrid varieties, while also capable of producing seeds, may result in offspring with different characteristics compared to the parent plant.
So, while you can still save seeds from hybrid varieties, be prepared for potential variations in the appearance of the resulting marigold plants.
