  1. DIABLO NINEBARK

Adding Diablo Ninebark to your landscape is an excellent way to create visual interest. This shrub is often referred to as a “black plant” due to its incredibly dark foliage, which appears almost black.

To grow this unique plant, it’s best to plant it in full to partial sunlight. It’s hardy in planting zones two through seven and can grow to heights of between eight and ten feet. Although it can reach maturity in just a couple of years, this shrub can be pruned effectively to maintain its shape and size.

  1. FORSYTHIA

Rewritten: One of the earliest bloomers in spring, forsythia is a personal favorite of mine due to its stunning display of golden flowers. This shrub requires full to partial sunlight and is hardy in planting zones five through eight. Forsythia bushes grow at a rate of about two feet per year and can reach a height of eight to ten feet. If you’re looking for both privacy and a burst of color, forsythia could be an excellent choice for your landscape.

  1. PUSSY WILLOW

The fluffy, white flowers of the pussy willow shrub often remind people of cats. It’s an early bloomer, usually producing blooms earlier than the forsythia bush. If you want to add this classic shrub to your landscape, make sure to plant it in full to partial sunlight, and ensure you’re in planting zones four through eight, which are the hardy zones for this shrub. The pussy willow can grow to be fifteen feet or taller, and it grows a few feet per year.

  1. ELDERBERRY

Elderberry bushes are not only grown for their delicious and healthy fruits, but they can also be an excellent choice for a living hedge to ensure privacy in your yard. They can mature to heights ranging from six to twelve feet and grow relatively quickly, reaching maturity in as little as three years. Elderberry bushes bloom in the spring and are hardy in planting zones three through seven.
